Divorce Day 2022 – Why do divorce enquiries increase in January.

Christmas is nearing and divorce companies will soon start to see an influx of enquiries as we head towards Divorce Day 2022.

Here is a recent blog post from the UK’s only true fixed fee divorce company, fair-result on why January is the most popular time for a divorce.

Divorce Month: Why Is January the Most Popular Time For Divorce?

Divorce Month Banner

When we say that January is THE Divorce month of the year, we aren’t exaggerating.

Over recent years, January has unofficially become synonymous with divorce. ‘Divorce Day’ falls on the first Monday of the year, with Tuesday 4th January 2022 being the next.

Divorce related search queries on Google saw more than a 25% increase from December 2020 to January 2021. But it isn’t a new thing; divorce search terms skyrocket every January, increasing year on year.

Fair Result’s experts explain why this trend may happen.

Christmas is out of the way

The festive period is seen as the most magical time of year, but not for everyone. People who are already thinking about divorce or noticing that their marriage isn’t what they would like it to be, tend to get a harsh reminder of that during the holidays.

Christmas, New Year’s, and other holidays (such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa) come with large expectations and managing the stress of the festive period means divorcees can wait for many.

Strained couples tend to stay together over Christmas time, to ensure family, mainly the children, get a ‘normal’, loving holiday season before separating.

Other factors tend to include having to buy numerous presents, visiting extended family, or even travel costs if they’ve planned to go abroad. Taking all of it into account, you can understand how stressful the holiday season can get, before even taking divorce into consideration.

The festive rose-tinted glasses have come off

As many of us do, strained couples also tend to feel the festive joy and become more motivated to make their marriage work around the Christmas period. Come January, the reality of the situation begins to set in, once again.

An experiment conducted by a danish researcher Brand Haddock found that after showing two groups of people (one group celebrates Christmas, the other don’t) imagery of holiday themes, while they underwent a brain scan. The results reveal that the front of the brain lit up for those who celebrate Christmas as they were shown holiday-themed pictures.

Another research, by psychoanalyst Steve McKeown, shows that Christmas decorations and other holiday-related things tend to have strong associations with childhood and are more likely to bring up feelings of nostalgia. Either to remember younger years or try to compensate for the past.

Nostalgia combined with the magic of Christmas – what could go wrong?

That’s one of the reasons why people tend to try fixing their marriage during the holidays, or just blindly stay together and hope for the best. Unfortunately, January is just around the corner and with it, you’ve to welcome back the ‘real-life’.

The Holidays can propel Divorce thoughts

On the flip side, the stress of the Festive Season can actually cause relationship breakdowns.

“The holidays often create unrealistic standards about what the holidays should ‘be like,’ and that can amplify feelings of anxiety and depression” – Dr. Rutledge said.

Add some social media to the mix and you might start believing that everyone else is living perfect lives with perfect relationships.

Relate’s (UK’s biggest relationship charity) CEO, Aidan Jones said: “The emotional and financial pressures of Christmas and the holidays can push couples to breaking point. On average Relate receives a 13% rise in calls and a 58% rise in website users each January.”

Considering the financial strain of the holidays, meeting extended family, even romanticizing Christmas can lead to a disaster.

It’s rarely ever one of these things, most likely it’s a combination of various factors, but the disagreements don’t become any less real because of that.

This makes tensions rise and thoughts of divorce come to the forefront.

New Year’s Resolutions – New Year, New Me

The festive period is a time for reflection and the trend of New Year’s resolutions plays quite a factor in divorce.

Many people tend to change things up in their life after the new year begins, and for some, this includes the end of an unhealthy marriage.

The pressure of a New Year’s resolution may give those who have been considering divorce the push they need.

The end of the Tax Year is looming

Married couples who want a divorce, want it done and dusted as soon as possible. Even though it usually takes from four to six months to get divorced, the worst-case scenario – it can take years.

When divorcing, either partner can transfer assets to the other with no exposure to tax, as long as it’s done before the end of the tax year. After the tax year, such transfers result in the application of capital gains tax (CGT) on any notional (estimated) gain made by the transferor.

With only 3 months until the end of the tax year (5th April), many people looking for a divorce in January decide now is the time to start the ball rolling.

So, is it true that January is the divorce month?

Yes and No. Let us explain… January is definitely the month of divorce, but in a different way than one would assume.

What’s more likely to happen is that people were already thinking about getting divorced for months, but January tends to be that breaking point of starting to strive for a new better you.

Although much to disappointment, most divorces don’t happen for a while after January. Figuring out how to approach the proceedings, the legal jumbo, and various personal reasons take into effect first.

One could say that the real divorce month is March, simply because the legal part of separation tends to start then. Nonetheless, January is most definitely upholding the title of The Month for Divorce Decision Making.

Taking the first steps this new year

As we’ve learnt today, January is the ‘divorce decision’ month. Which means that for a lot of you, this is that last push to make a very hard decision.

We at Fair Result know what divorce feels like first-hand and we want to be there for you if and when you make that decision. With spiralling costs and damaged relationships, our aim is to make the divorce process as stress-free and straightforward as possible.

career, lifestyle, Marketing

Starting a brand new career at the age of 30.

Do any of us actually ever know what we want to do when we leave school? I had absolutely no clue after failing my A levels and jumping into hairdressing as I saw this as not only an easy option but my only option at such short notice.

I really don’t see now why we are pressured into making huge life choices at such a young age, yes some people do just have that life goal in mind but the majority of us don’t have a clue and in reality if I had received decent A level results I would have gone to uni and studied English, hated it and have been back to square one and in a similar situation after graduation.

Only now at the age of 30 do I really believe I have found my true passion in life and it has happened purely by life experience and stumbling across something that has really interested me and given me a huge amount of motivation and drive. I do think lockdown and having a lot of time to manifest really helped with realising that being 29 at the time, I really didn’t have to settle.

I have always been pretty nifty with words and I am in no way a writer, I mean I couldn’t have written this piece without the spell checker but writing is something I have always loved, combine this with my obsession with telling everyone about things I have tried and convincing them to buy or try products, out came my Instagram page which I transformed into a lifestyle reviewing platform 3 1/2 years ago. My following has grown and grown which has lead me to me working with some incredible independent businesses and even some more well known brands such as Degustabox which has been on going for over 2 years now which I am always thankful for.

During lockdown I was still working but had a few days furloughed, I decided to start taking a few online marketing courses and get myself up to speed along with 3363264624742724 YouTube videos, which are great if you are looking to learn something new, I transformed myself into an 18 year old sponge and soaked up any little bit of information possible.

I applied for job after job, if you look at my LinkedIn page it’s actually embarrassing the amount of jobs and roles I had applied for, I did get a fair few interviews which helped me to get into the flow a little and calm the nerves but the rejection was becoming soul destroying and then one afternoon I was searching on Indeed I noticed a Creative Agency called think3 based in Derby were looking for a Junior digital PR executive, reading the description was almost as though I have written my dream job down in a bullet pointed list.

I decided to be my annoying / proactive self and reach out to one of the directors via LinkedIn after spotting a post he had made relating to my favourite film “The Greatest Showman” and it worked, I was booked in for a “chat” a few weeks later and had a video call with Lee which then landed me an interview the following day. I can honestly say it was the best interview I have had, it wasn’t really an interview, more of a chat but I really felt at ease quickly and knew that this role was right for me pretty instantaneously plus the office was super quirky and looked like such a fun place to work and be creative.

Around a week or so later I was offered the position and was absolutely over the moon.

Fast-forward 13 weeks (I know, the longest, most painful notice period ever) and I have just finished my second week at think3, yes it was massively daunting to begin with, I was the only member of staff with no professional experience and had a huge bout of imposter syndrome but I now feel a lot more settled, I love the place and the team really are the dream team. I am getting stuck in with lots of work and research ready for up coming campaigns and projects. I honestly couldn’t have made a better decision.

I know this was super long but I just wanted to put it out there that it is okay to make a huge career change slightly later than most people, it’s okay to have absolutely no idea what you want to do even in your 30’s/ 40s but if you push yourself and don’t let rejection get in your way, you will get there. if you have something you do now as a hobby, have a think if there is a way to make this your job and do something you love every single day.

Check out the think3 website – https://think3.co.uk/ and all of the exciting past projects, give the blog a read too as it’s really insightful and transparent.

Thank you so much for reading, have a great weekend.

lifestyle, subscription box, wine

A wine subscription box that fits through your letterbox🤯🍷.

They’ve only gone and done it, my favourite wine subscription brand The Wine List have created a fantastic new concept for their well known subscription boxes which originally only included your choice of 2 or 6 bottles fro £39, you can now get your hands on a three glass box from £19 which gives you the chance to try 3 exciting new wines which you wouldn’t pick up in the supermarket along with the usual tasting cards, video content and all of the good stuff included with the bottle subscriptions.

I am a bit of a packaging weirdo and I am just loving the design of these little one glass red and white pouches, they are very aesthetically pleasing and would make the best gift too.

They have all of the wine info on the back too from origin to grape type.

If you have never come across The Wine List or heard of them before then check out my previous blog posts to find out more about them and their wine subscription service where you learn as you taste wines that you cannot find in the supermarket.

They currently have an offer running on their website, if you sign up to their mailing list you will receive 40% off your first box. (I cannot guarantee that this is still the case when you read this blog post).

If you love your wine like I do but don’t have the first clue about wine tasting then check out The Wine List, you will love them.

Thanks so much for reading.

How can Influencer marketing work for my business?

I know you must be thinking “How will sending out products to Celebrities or paying them to promote my product actually help my business? I mean let’s face it, do any of them actually try the products they are promoting? .

Influencers are not just celebrities, there are many “real people” who have a genuine high following out there and something I have personally discovered recently using Instagram analytics is that people respond far better to other people which I think is down to relatability. Being able to use real people who will try a product which is sent to them from your brand and speak about it honestly whilst reaching a wide audience depending on their demographics means we can reach far more people at a far smaller cost than we may put into other ways of advertising.

Instagram was once just a photo sharing app and has now grown into to this huge social media platform where people can engage with celebrities, Influencers & brands more than ever before, get creative with videos, reels and stories seem to be getting even better engagement than actual Instagram feed posts currently which again I believe relates to people enjoying real life content. There really are so many ways in which an Influencer can promote and speak about your product/brand.

The first important step is deciding on your campaign and who you want to target, you can draw up contracts for the Influencers you take on for this which not only helps you to receive the content the Influencer has promised but it also protects your brand from negative feedback from the Influencer without it first being discussed.

You now must be thinking, how do I find these Influencers and get in contact with them? .

Do your research, you can sign up to agencies who will help you with this, there are loads out there but of course there will be a cost involved. Instagram again is a fantastic way to find Influencers, you can search for people within a certain niche that you are looking for using hashtag search and the majority of the time Influencers have a way in which you can contact them outside of Instagram which is usually a personal email address or a manager email address. Of course, you can use direct messages but this can sometimes feel a little more informal and may be ignored.

Get searching for your perfect Influencers now, lets grow your business and sell your product / services.

How good does normality feel?.

I felt this very strange emotion yesterday that I wasn’t quite used to and it felt almost foreign to me.

FUN and EXCITEMENT, I had completely forgotten that they existed and it actually made me realise that I have been living the last year plus (like many of us) in a weird numb haze.

The hubby and I went out for the day, not to do anything out of the ordinary but we headed car shopping for him as it is coming to the end of his PCP, we went to subway and sat in a car park near pride park in Derby which was weirdly nice and finally we went shopping to get prepared for our new puppy who is arriving in just under three weeks time.

We both said the same thing, it was so nice to be out and about doing normal things that we would have normally moaned about having to do, it has really made me realise how much we took for granted before Covid was a thing and also made me appreciate the little and simple things in life that make us happy and make us smile.

Today we are off for a mini spa day which out friend bought us for Christmas which includes 55 minutes of treatments which I am dying for followed by visiting our little puppy because we haven’t seen him for a couple of weeks.

I hope you all have the least Mondayest Monday ever.

These were so delicious, I am blueberry mad anyway so I knew I would love them, they contained Whey protein and kept me really full until lunch time.

For lunch I went for the Asian noodle salad.

I love anything like this, it had the perfect amount of chilli to give it that slight spicy kick too.

Last off in the evening for dinner I had the Spinach and Asparagus risotto.

I love how filling risotto’s are any time, this was delicious and contained parmesan which really added to the flavour of the overall dish.

dream, lifestyle, work

Just keep going, fight for your dream and believe in yourself.

At least that is what I keep having to tell myself every single day. Have you ever wanted something so much and have the true drive and passion for something but getting there is seeming impossible?.

Since I began content creating alongside my full time career 3 years ago, I have found something I have such a true passion for, I don’t think I have ever really truly known what I want to do with my life with my only dream being “I want to live in Florida one day” until now.

Over the last three years I have gained a confidence and skills in social media and content creation from approaching small businesses and bigger brands to create content for them across my social media channels, I feel I have discovered far more about myself over the last three years and at the age of 30 I finally know what I want to do with my life. I have experience in certain areas of the industry I would like to go into and I am constantly seeking out new information and I am currently taking a certified online marketing course to broaden my knowledge on skills such as SEO, SEM and key word research which I do have to do a lot of for my Instagram and YouTube channel. I use Canva on a daily basis to create images which engage with my audience and aren’t overly edited but also make products stand out and become the main focus of a post.

My only downside is having no formal qualification in digital marketing or social media which is hugely frustrating as a lot of companies won’t even entertain looking at my CV.

I updated my CV yesterday using Canva and created something directly aimed at the industry in which I would love to work.

I have also spent the last few days updating my LinkedIn profile – Kerrie Ashall | LinkedIn and just updating various bio’s and links on my social media.

This is something I really want from life and I wont give up until I get to where I want to be, yes the constant rejection can be soul destroying but I know this is something that may take time and I know I am doing everything I can to better myself and make myself more attractive to an entry level marketing position.

I would love any tips and advise if anyone out there has any?. I would really appreciate that.

Thanks so much for reading,
